Normandy

 Operation Overlord

We planted an American flag on the beach.

We landed at Normandy at sun rise. We had a much more comfortable landing exiting the landing craft than they did on D Day. Nice comfortable ferry. Left at midnight and landed a 7:00.

                                                 Omaha Beach, American Memorial
We rented a car and headed to Juno Beach which is the Canadian landing beach.

We stayed in a lovely Air B&B at Courseulles- sur-Mer  on the beach with a sunset/sunrise view.

We visited most of the D-Day landing beaches. Each had memorials and museums for each country that participated. The Canadian had an Imax which you entered a landing craft and the movie above showed what it looked like if you were landing on the beaches. Thank goodness they did not add the motion.

The french people were so welcoming. The most friendly people I have meet in France. They were all so thankful for the Americans.

We went to Omaha Beach on Memorial Day as they was a ceremony. Little did we know it was not on Monday, as the French does not have a holiday on Monday so the ceremony was on Sunday. Only missed it by a day.

We did get into a tour and had a wonderful remembrance of the day.

Next on the list was food.

British landing with a Scotsman piping on Sword

Inside a German bunker.       An  American tank.

The stakes put up on the beaches to stop the allies.

On our way to Bayeux we ran into a friendly. Donkey in the Daisies !

Next stop was to see the tapestry that told the history of William the bastard to William the Conqueror. Marketing at its beginning.

More food, delicious!

Mount Saint Micheal
An island with a ancient monastery on it, turned tourist trap.

Felt like Disneyland without the rides.

Our last channel crossing.

Sun setting as we entered the Solvent.

Landed at Plymouth
